The Busch Building was originally constructed by Adolphus Busch of brewing fame in 1912. It served as an office building companion to the opulent Adolphus Hotel, just 1/2 block away. Unique in Dallas architecture, all main building facades are clad in glazed terra cotta in a elaborate neo-gothic style, the only remaining Dallas commercial building in that style. Among other distinctions, it was the original home of Sanger Brothers Department Store which eventually became the beloved Sanger-Harris store chain.
In the 1990’s, it was among Downtown Dallas’ numerous historic office buildings that were converted to residential lofts.
Norman Alston Architects is currently assisting with a number of repairs and upgrades, from lobby renovations and apartment modifications, to elevator replacements to important structural repairs. The Busch-Kirby Building utilizes Texas Historic Tax Credits.
