New National Historic Landmark designations recognize places that depict a broad range of America’s rich, complex history. Among the new honorees is Casa José Antonio Navarro in San Antonio. National Historic Landmark Designation is the highest, most prestigious designation available and is reserved for the most important cultural and historical sites. To illustrate, there are approximately 1,500 NHL's in the US as compared to about 1.3 million buildings listed on the more common National Register of Historic Places.
